Dear Parents, February 1, 2019
I hope everyone was snuggled in and warm this past week during some of the worst weather that we’ve had in years. The flip side to our week long snow and bitter cold spell, is that we are already into February.
There is so much going on this month in our classroom that I barely know where to begin. Our reading contest continues until the end of May, so I am sending home the February calendar with your child today. Thank you to everyone for helping your child practice and for making them accountable on their reading day. I have some awesome readers this year and I want it to continue that way.
Now that we are heading into the second semester of the school year, I will be starting spelling with my students. Each week your child will have ten spelling words to study. The words will be introduced each Monday with the warm up sheet. We will do varied activities each day to help your child practice these words in the classroom. On Wednesday, I will give our class a pre-test. If your child passes the test with 100% accuracy, they will not take the test again. A final test will be given each Friday for those who need it. I want this to be a positive learning experience for my students, a challenge that they look forward to each week, so please help me by encouraging them to do their best.
We will celebrate Valentine’s Day, and our 100th Day of School also this month. Valentine’s Day is Thursday, February 14th. Our classroom party will take place that afternoon. If you signed up to send in a treat for our party, I am attaching a friendly reminder. Thank you so much to all our wonderful room moms and dads. I appreciate you all so much. I do not have the date for our 100th day of school, as of right now, but I will let you know when it is, and what I have planned for that day as soon as I can.
Have a wonderful weekend.
