May 20, 2019
With the 2018-2019 school year coming to an end, I want to inform you about a few things we will be doing to wrap up our year in first grade. First of all, this coming Friday, May 24th, is a half day of school. Students will be released at 11:35. There is also no school on Monday, May 27th due to Memorial Day. When we return on Tuesday of next week, I will be starting Camp Kinney with my students. This will be a fun filled week of centers, crafts, food, and challenges for your child. I have attached some additional information telling you a little more about how each day will be divided, along with a wish list of food items and supplies we will need to make this the best week EVER! If you are able to help by donating something, we would greatly appreciate it.
Our field trip to the Sleeping Bear Dunes is Thursday, June 6th. The permission slips were sent home with each student last week. Please have them return it to me, if they haven’t already. I am hoping that by then, the weather will be hot and sunny….but you never know? I will send a reminder and some finishing details about the trip that first week in June.
Our first grade reading contest will end on May 31st. Thank you to all of you for encouraging your child to have their book each week, and for all the time you placed on the importance of reading. I have three students who had their book every week and read. These students will receive a $10 gift card for their hard work. I am planning to have ice cream and certificates for everyone the first week in June. If your child was one of the top readers, they will get their gift card at that time.
Our last day of school is June 11th. Students will be dismissed at 11:35. The end of the year award assembly and PTO field day will take place that morning in the big gym, and on the soccer field. If your child is getting an award that day, they will bring a postcard home, inviting you to attend.
Thanks to all of you for giving me the opportunity to be your child’s teacher this year. It went by amazing quick with all the snow days, and all. I hope I was able to make a positive impact on each one of them during this year long journey.
